  2. DMR

Most of us expected it to be a bit closer but it was a great race nonetheless.

1200 – James took it out at a decent pace but then I’m not sure what happened. I was expecting at least 3:03 by the leaders with James being right there but the time fell off a bit. Stratman did exactly what Henderson needed, he put them in the race. He hung back within striking distance and then made a move at the right time to put WCH right there with O’hara, which was exactly what WCH needed. I suspect he might have had another 1-2 seconds if the pace had stayed faster since his goal was probably to stick near James.

400 – The 400 leg is usually unheralded in the DMR but it cannot be overlooked that Thompson came up huge…huge. 50.85 must be a pr 400 split for him. Few teams are going to make up any significant ground when the 400 guy is running around 51 and nobody did today. Most importantly though, he kept them ahead of O’hara.

800 – Smart has the stong, smooth look of a 800 runner, i wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up with an open 1:52 low come states. Moy on the other hand has more of a bull-in-a-china-closet stride, but it sure works for him. If he ran 1:57 today that would have been ok. But he hung tough with Smart, dropped a 1:55 and handed it off with room to spare.

1600 – Was there ever any doubt? Well, maybe just a little for about 3 minutes. Kudus to Belfatto, he did what he had to do and shouldered Russell for almost 3 laps, it cost them second place but he had no choice. Russell getting the baton right there then going out in 58/2:01 showed he wasn’t taking any chances of losing this relay. Had Belfatto had a bigger head start both he and Russell would probably have gone lower.

Congrats to Henderson for taking a big time relay victory.

  3. I believe Thompson has split 50.3 before in a 4x400, but either way great job by him and the rest of the Henderson boys

  4. Crazy impressive that Russell held on to a 58/2:01 pace. His 800 PR is 5 seconds faster so running another 800 just shows how much of a grinder he is. If that race went out in 2:04, I'm afraid of what he could have run. Great win by Henderson and great choice for lead off.

O'Hara on the other hand were the favorites, but I neglected to realize how well they peak late season. By Nationals I think they will dip under 10 flat. They're trained to peak then and just like indoor when all of them went crazy the last 2-3 weeks, they will do it again. That 4x1600/DMR is looking very good for them. Heck, they could probably put together a solid 4x800 as well.

    1. Isn't that trained to peak stuff why their coaches said they lost states XC last year? It sounds like sour grapes and excuses. They looked good yesterday, Smart was peaked at 1:53, as was Belfatto since he was forced to go out in 2:02. James was a little off but that's the deal with a relay, it's tough to have everyone run their best. Even Russell was a few seconds off his pr yesterday.

  5. It was a straight wind tunnel all day on the track I think Kevin James' gutsiness hurt him today trying to take it out that hard and if it wasn't so windy out we probably could've seen tony throw down a 4:05-4:06 split but I guess we'll have to wait till the end of the season to see tony do something like that in good weather

  6. Nobody talking about Pennridge coming up HUGE running 7:50! Man Logue had a fantastic anchor leg, but who is Dan Williams? I'd just dropped a bomb 1:57 split. Not sure if they'll hold up in the COA, but well done.

Kyle Francis runs 1:56 on the relay, which was fairly surprising.

Lastly the 3k... goodness gracious it was fast! They went out in 2:10/4:26 and kept hammering. It was won by a sophomore in 8:16!! But Deluca looked great running a massive 8:21 PR. Wilson also looked really smooth in his 8:23 effort. I think Deluca may be coming on strong too early, but we shall see.
