Here is how this will work. Each person has gets $400 (not literally of course). I assign some dollar values to all the runners in the distance events and you choose how to use that money to "buy" runners for states and build your team. Then scoring works just like it does at the state meet. If your runner gets 1st, that's 10 points, second is 8 points, then 6-5-4-3-2-1 up through 8th. Here is the dollar values to pick from (remember to attach some type of code name so we can keep track of how everyone did):

Are any of the 800 runners NOT AAA for outdoors?
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not mistaken, Ritz is not PIAA and Hackman, Lutzner and Koryak are AA for track (A for XC)
DeleteThink any of those non AAA guys have a good shot at medaling or even placing top 5, outside of Ritz, in the 8?
DeleteLutzner is on the double from the mile (where I think he could medal), so it will be difficult for him to medal. Hackman and Koryak are both very capable of medaling. Hackman is in the fast heat so if he can hang tough with that fast pace, he will be in the medals. Koryak could win Heat 2, an achievement that would likely result in a medal for him as well.

I'm making the following picks for my squad (I'm aware that if my team does well it has a big asterix next to it considering I made up all the monetary values, but hey I want to play too!)
ReplyDeleteCBW 4x8
Hock, Geb, Susalla, Knapp in the 3k
Stoga DMR
KJ in the Mile (and I'm not Sam Hinkie so I won't be trading him for a 2nd round pick)
Feel free to check my math, I make a remarkable amount of mistakes for someone who majored in math
Good luck to everyone at states (especially those who I just picked)

That's it RJJL? Just picks, no analysis? And why not Knapp in the 3K, he's a steal at $10 bucks and you if anyone should know that.
DeleteOk, lots of intrigue at this state meet which made Etrain’s play money tough to budget. After laying out my fake money these are my predictions:
DeleteMile – Not to put any unnecessary pressure on the guy, but this should be all Ritz. I’ve read the talk this year about doubling and burn out and I’m not buying it. I believe he’s run a similar indoor schedule for running big mile races as Willig, Huemmler and Russell….though Etrain with his institutional knowledge can correct me! But he just seems to be a class above the competition right now.
He’s got a 10 second lead on paper. He’s got 1:52 indoor 800 speed and most impressive, he can go 1:57 after going out in 2:20. The only guy I see with a chance to beat him is James and the only way I can see that getting done is if he pushes the pace from the gun, which is a huge disadvantage, but probably his only option as it’s unlikely he’s going to outkick Ritz. My guess is it goes out tentative like in 2013 and Ritz just hangs back through three laps and takes over, James tries to match him and puts up a valiant effort but in the end its:
Ritz – 4:13
James – 4:15
Brophy – 4:17
Webb – 4:19
McDevitt – 4:19
800 - I was real pleasantly surprised to see Lewis give up the 400. Lewis fresh, Ritz trying to complete the double. I’ve always been skeptical of the double at states, the competition is too good and there’s too great a risk of being disappointed in both races. I do think James will force Ritz to go very hard for the mile gold and Ritz should make that race his priority, therefore he’ll be at a little worn against the fresh guys who have him in their sights. So, this one is all Lewis. Yes, Graca is on a role but Lewis is a beast at this event.
Lewis – 1:51.9
Graca – 1:53.1
Ritz – 1:53.9
Sauer – 1:54.0
Foust – 1:54.6
3000 – I’m a little disappointed that James dropped the 3K for the mile. I realize it’s the better option to run the earlier and shorter mile for doubling back to the DMR. But if this 3K were the only event he was running, he’d be my favorite to win by a decent margin. The guy has had an incredible career and a state championships would be a nice way to close out his indoor season. He’s still got a decent shot in both the mile and DMR, but this 3K just seemed set up nicely for him. But……he’s not in this race. So, Hockenbury is pretty far out in front coming in but there’s a lot of talent in the pack that hasn’t really come into top form yet. I’m expecting a tight pack but maybe someone will have a breakout race like Norris and Martin the past two years, I just don't know who it is.
Power – 8:35
Hockenbury – 8:36
McGoey – 8:38
Comber – 8:42
Loevner – 8:43
4x800 –
Pennsbury – 7:52
LaSalle – 7:54
Penncrest – 7:54
CBW – 7:58
State College – 7:59
DMR – I really like that St Joe’s, Stoga and GFS gave up the individual events to go for it all. It’s gutsy and should make for a great race. But, only one team can get the victory. I think the Stoga guys are a well rounded team, clicking and due for a drop.
Stoga – 10:22
St. Joes – 10:25
OH – 10:26
GFS – 10:27
DWest – 10:30
RJJL I'm afraid you're way off. James for double gold, and Hockenbury will win big.
