Penn Relays Discussion Night

Well, the Penn Relays are under a week away and I can smell that fine Philadelphia air, hear the whoops of a finishing kick and see a computer screen which has the words I'm typing right now slowly appearing. It's truly a magical time.

Here at the blog, we will be celebrating Penn Relays as best we can with many Relay themed activities (I'll be using the label PRatPR) and we are kicking things off by bringing the conversation straight to the people with a Penn Relays themed discussion night.

In case you have never experienced a discussion night before or need a reminder, we will be opening up the comment section for about an hour tonight (somewhere around 8:30, depending on when I get back from my run) and comments will go live immediately to promote a fun discussion of the latest in PA track and field news. Feel free to start early or stay late by commenting on this post.

Here are some questions that I came up with while looking at the entries (full entries and past results for the Penn Relays can be found by clicking around here).

Who will be PA's Top Miler: Hoey, Kolor, Dahl or Hoey?
Who will be PA's Top 3ker: Brophy, Hockenbury, Henderson or Kirshebaum?
Will Brophy and Dahl run on their 4x8 early in the morning on Friday? How will this effect their races later that night?
How many teams will make the COA Finals for the 4x8 from PA? Who will they be?
Which team is your biggest sleeper in the 4x8? Who are you looking most forward to watching race?
How will O'Hara do as PA's lone team in the DMR? Can they shock the world with another top finish/victory?
Which 4x400 teams will shine on Saturday?
Shout out to Jordan Geist, PA's out of this world Shot Putter who got snubbed from our show last night. How will he do on the big stage at Penn?

And feel free to go off script and offer up your own!

We want to hear all your thoughts, predictions and other ideas related to the Penn Relays in anticipating of our upcoming previews and yet another edition of TheRoundHouse next Monday at 9 PM. Super in depth previews are already in the works as well. Also keep in mind, etrain will be on site at the Penn Relays to help cover the event live and in person. There will be an official two hour meet and greet block on Penn Relays Friday. More on that to come, but if you want to meet the man behind the blog, ask him some questions, and perhaps even end up in a TheRoundHouse segment, this will be your chance.

PS - Feel free to discuss other things as well like the upcoming Shippensburg Invitational. We are mainly here to stir the pot rather than steer the boat if you know what I'm saying.

  1. I don't know if we're going to see him beat Brophy, but I think Henderson will have somewhat of a breakout performance (which is saying something considering how good he already is). He has the speed to drop some time in the 3k with his nice 1600 PR and he definitely has sufficient endurance with his performance at Hershey. I'm excited to see how he runs.

    1. He always had that endurance, now has some killer speed.

  2. The Warrior performance list is up and it looks like all of DTW is running it except the Hoey's and Barton. Speculation is their focus is Penn Relays DMR. Hopefully they skip those individual events at Penn.

    1. News flash-they didn't enter the DMR.

    2. Well if that is true it implies their race schedule is very individual oriented and shots are being called by someone else.

    3. If true that’s a little shocking that the team with state indoor mile winner and runner up, state champ in the indoor 400 and two other top distance guys aren’t running the most prestigious distance team relay event in PA. They must have some serious injuries to skip that event.

    4. Sappey showed up for Dwest at the Warrior and went 4:18. That's a heck of a DMR they could field if they were able.

  3. AAA 3200 is wide open this year after that great senior class graduated. of course Brophy has to be the favorite and I think he will run it.

    1. Is Brophy the favorite though? And if he is, does that mean good things? McGoey was a pretty clear favorite for most people last year and he barely got into the medals. Russell was the favorite in 2014 and Ross Wilson ran an amazing race to get the then state record. AAA 3200 is a really confusing race to call every year because of the heat, doubling, etc.

  4. Obviously, SC, CBW and Abington are the top PA teams to watch and all 3 have a strong chance of making the COA (particularly SC and CBW). Of the small schools, I think Penn Wood makes it in the COA. Manyeah and Seck will be strong as usual but Johnson, has really stepped up. This program does a good job at developing excellent 400 individuals to strong 800 runner. If Brophy runs, CBE should be in the bubble. LaSalle and CRN have had a fine spring season. 1 or both of these teams may surprise and make the cut (I’m leaning towards LaSalle). I would’t count out NP as well if they decide their run the top 4 guys (I think the focus will be more on 4x4 so they may save Watson).

  5. Too bad Pennridge isn't running 4x8. I really think they are as good as SC and could have possible run in low 7:40s. After seeing GF times this weekend, I'm going to update my selection above. I think GF makes it in over Pennwood. I see two of their guys going under 1:55. The other two only needs to be in 1:59 or 2:00 to break 7:50.
