1/17 Rankngs

Hey, everyone. I posted the state indoor rankings on LXV+ a couple days ago, but remembered recently that most of you guys don't check that stuff. So I decided to post up the links for you this morning here on the front page:

800m
Mile
3,000m
4x800m
DMR

Note that these lists incorporate conversions and estimate scratches for the state meet as things currently stand. It's a living document that will constantly be updated as we progress through the season. Feel free to reach out with questions or comments. It's important to understand the list and the qualifying procedure so that, come states acceptances time, you don't have any issues.

Worth noting, the times from the Glenn Mills meet last night aren't reflected in these lists. I'll give you a quick recap of the meet below to compensate.

In the 4x800m, North Penn stormed to the victory over Cheltenham and Bensalem with a mark of 8:24. Keep in mind the track record is around 8:01 and that was run by current state record holders CB West (who finished the year at 7:45). So a time like 8:24 is pretty solid. Cheltenham's mark of 8:26 would put them in a state qualifying position in the event as of now as well.

The 1600m was a match up between a pair of rising stars in the TFCAofGP. Dylan Servis of Twin Valley outlasted Harrison Mazurek of WC East 4:39 to 4:41 for the gold. Both of these kids have really been racing well. They are competitive in a bunch of big fields, but just haven't found the race to pop off a time that scares the SQG. I think it could happen some time before season's end if they keep racing hard like they have been to date. Just behind the two was Brendan Quinn of Hatboro Horsham in 4:41.

Dennis Manyeah and his Penn Wood teammate Inerji Sirleof took the top two spots in the open 800 running 2:06 and 2:07. They beat a solid field that included 1:56 man Chris Cameron from Wissahickon. The Penn Wood mid-distance program has been very strong the past two years, leaving PSU last year with state medals in the 4x8. This year could be a repeat performance.

North Penn's Brendan O'Toole, potentially doubling off the 4x800, ran 10:11 to win the 3200. Again it was North Penn edging out Cheltenham as sophomore Jason Cornelison came up with a surprising silver medal winning performance. Cornelison and Wissahickon's Matt Maiae each ran 10:14 for some strong PRs. At the league championships in XC, the boys were 9th and 12th with neither under 17 minutes. Now they are running 10:14 for 3200 on a slower indoor surface.

Glenn Mills closed out the day on their home track by winning the 4x400. Their "B" team also broke 3:40 and placed 4th overall! They have a real nice stable of sprinters to work with as they make a push to get into the state title conversation in the 1600m relay over the next few weeks.

  1. For those of you playing along, the Ultimate Fan Challenge continues! Here's the next challenge. Find a post on the blog that references at least one of the following: Steph Curry, Drake, or "The Process". Then, comment on the post with your team name. Every team that comments on one post will get a point. However, once one post has been commented on, no other team can use that post (i.e. Each team will have to find a different post). The maximum amount of points one team can achieve for this challenge is 1, so don't go searching for too many posts.

But, I will award an extra bonus point to anyone who comments on a post that fits this criteria in the year 2014.

All the best and feel free to ask questions if I said something that wasn't clear.

You have 48 hours to complete the challenge. Best of luck!

    1. Good question. The N stands for No, but it also a mark for me because it may change going forward if that runner or that runner's team qualifies in a different event. For example, Brandon Hontz has a "N" in the 800, but if his team makes it in the DMR, I'd imagine he will scratch the 800 and run just the mile-DMR double rather than the mile-800 double.
