Good news, sports fans: I’ve decided to start calling everyone sports fans. But also yours truly will be posting up a live “radio” broadcast this coming Sunday night on the blog to help kick off district week. I’ll also be opening up the comment section so that comments will immediately go live to help open up discussion for a window on Sunday afternoon.

Feel free to start submitting questions now for the broadcast and I will answer them while I’m on the air. If I don’t get any questions, I’ll just talk about whatever I find interesting. That could work out well (the District One state qualifying race seems pretty fun), but it also could work out not in your favor (how about 20 minutes on the fictional 2016 WC North XC squad?). So I think you should go ahead and submit your own questions.

Here’s some stuff that is bouncing around my head that you may wish to weigh in on:

Team Talk
Who makes it out of District One AAA?
Who makes it out of District Seven AAA?
Who makes it out of District Three AAA?
Who wins District Three AA?
Who survives District Ten AA?
Who has the biggest win: Penns Valley, Jenkintown, Montrose, Elk CC or Winchester Thurston?
Which team race will be the closest?
Which team do you think will pull off the biggest upset?
Which district team battle in any classification most intrigues you?

Individual Talk
Who are your picks for individual district champs?
Which sleeper picks will emerge?
Can anyone beat Rusty or Noah? How about Tristan, Isaac, or Sam?
What will be the time cut off in District One AAA?
Who will be the state champion favorites in each class after this weekend?
Which non-top 50 guys could win their district?

Random Thoughts
Will the Eagles beat the Skins on Monday night? What will their record be after state’s weekend?
How can I convince my fiancée to name our first child Carson?
The Sixers: Over/Under 70 wins
But in all seriousness, The Sixers: Over/Under 68 wins
In this final year of the blog, what are your favorite posts that you want to see down the stretch?
If a tree falls on the Forrest, and no one is around to hear it, should we help him even if he doesn’t make a sound?
How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll Center of a Tootsie Pop? And more importantly, how is Mr. Owl doing these days?
Does anybody actually read the texts of these posts? Or do they just wait for the rankings to come out and read the comments? Who am I kidding, it’s definitely the second one.

  2. What do you mean final year of the blog?!!!! You're quitting? We need this. How about just cutting back to half the posts?

  3. Ditto, I read it all.

  6. So I’m realizing now that my post sounded a little different than I intended. I thought most of you had seen the after etrain post (looking for new writers so I can slowly ease off into a more part time role) so I didn’t mean to drop a bomb on all of you. I’m hoping to keep this thing going on possibly an updated platform with some fresh blood. Check out that post for the full details and hit us up if you are a writing fan and want to be involved in the next generation.

I also realize it probably looks like I was fishing for a compliment/upset about the readership with my last joke. That was literally just supposed to be a throw away joke line. Self depreciation is one of my moves. Anyway, I think my readers are awesome and I know you guys are true fans who tune in and respect the blog. I didn’t mean to sound unappreciative or anything. I’ve been writing this long because of my readers and truly appreciate that support.

So anyway my bad on those jokes. I’m here. I’m gonna get you guys through and make sure there is always a discussion hub for PA and we are gonna continue to have fun here through to states and beyond! So let’s get the talk going and let’s get some questions for the radio show! I’ve got a lot to say this week so I hope y’all are ready

  7. Very interested in your comments after tomorrow's meets. District should be exciting.

  8. 1a) your writing style is so well developed for this medium, and it's wonderful to read your work Jarrett.
1b) and i would also be excited to have some new writers. from experience it is a fantastic opportunity to hone critical writing skills.

    2) i think that the tree hitting Forrest's body would inevitably make a cracking sound, so i think we could say Forrest's body made a sound. With this being the case, i hope someone goes to get forrest. although forrest is probably deceased from this tragic incident, so maybe allowing the body to decay in its natural habitat would be considered just.
    3) maybe another round of random relay teams over time? always loved those posts!
    4) i think Washington pulls out the win by 3, but that's probably bc im still bitter from the broncos loosing to the giants this past weekend.
    5) for the sake of your future child i hope you do not convince n of this 'carson' nonsense. (p.s. 'n' is standing here as a mathematics double entendre... i hope you appreciate it jarr 😂)
    6) ill give predictions during the radio programming :)

  11. Taylor Allderdice had their best showing at their district meet in their past 3 years of being an above average team. After two straight 16th place finishes, and up to 4 years of experience at Hershey for some of their top guys, what are the odds that they run like veterans on the course and find themselves around 9th-10th?

  12. Cut off time for states out of D1?

    1. I would say 16:20, but the early weather forecast is perfect, so it might take 16:14.

  13. The record for fewest amount of points scored in the "A" classification since being created in 2012, was 60 points scored by Saegertown in 2013. Penns Valley scored 50 at Foundation, a race that included other big teams, WT and Jenkintown. Could we see the lowest score ever recorded in A by this PV squad?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Doubt it, Jenkintown didn't have a good day at foundation, WT also has made some impressive strides, plus Montrose and ECC, A race will be close

      Delete
    2. No way. As other guy said, Jenkintown struggled, and WT has looked really good as of late, could go under 20 points at Mack Cooper. ECC also wasn't there, and they can put at least 2 guys in front of the PV pack. It'll be a good one in hershey.

    3. Oops, said Mack Cooper, meant WPIALs.

  14. Takes from the League meets in regard to the District 1 Champs:
1-PAC-SF, OJR and Btown all look good but inconsistent. Their history is not run well at Districts but talent usually reigns supreme. In a down year for District 1, at least 1 of them has to make it out. They probably have a great chance to get 2 out, but it would be surprising if all 3 make it.
2-Central League-PC is the only team that has a chance. They just seemed a bit flawed on the back end. They haven't run in any really competitive races which will hurt their young guys.
3-Suburban One League-CRN looks really good. A bad day by Mullen will hurt them but they're a really good bet to get through to States. They're a lot like Carlisle last year with a really good 4. That hurts them less at States than at Districts. If you run 17:10 at Districts, that's around 180 most years. They'll be fine though. The question is will anyone else come out of here. CBW and CBE look good but may just be back a little far. North Penn looks Ok, but I wouldn't count on them.
4-Ches-Mont-DTW looks really good but they've had some hiccups in the big 5ks. They looked great at Ches-Monts. Shanahan could be very dangerous if they all have a good day. They need Yoquinto to come up big to have a chance. Henderson only beat WCE by one point at CMs. Unionville fell apart. This could be the year for the CM to only send one team. I don't really believe that but that's how it looks right now.
Here is how I see it:
    1-CRN-163
    2-DTW-172
    3-Spring Ford-255
    4-OJR-261
    5-WCH-278
    6-BT-281
    7-CBW-305
    8-CBE-312
    9-PC-319
    10-NP-344
    Individuals
    1-Rusty-15:04
    2-Conway-15:14
    3-Josh Hoey-15:21
    4-Campbell-15:22
    5-Smucker-15:23
    6-Koza-15:27

  15. What would the betting odds be for states (all classes)? Or I guess percent chance of winning, since that's easier to understand?

    ReplyDelete
  16. id love to see some % chance of teams making States out of D1, D7, and D3 from jarrett

  17. This year is so competitive I’m gonna have to pull an etrain and do some spreadsheet analysis for predictions. So I’m not ready for predictions tonight. But I can respond to the random thoughts questions:

Will the Eagles beat the Skins on Monday night? Yes, but I’m a little worried, the Skins are tough.

What will their record be after state’s weekend? 7-1

How can I convince my fiancée to name our first child Carson? It’s best for me not get comment on that one, I wouldn’t want to risk getting on the future Mrs. Felix’s bad side. But I will say Carson Felix has a nice ring to it and sounds like a top 50 runner as a soph.

The Sixers: Over/Under 70 wins: Under

But in all seriousness, The Sixers: Over/Under 68 wins: Under (they have chemistry issues right now)

In this final year of the blog, what are your favorite posts that you want to see down the stretch? Final year, I hope not.

If a tree falls on the Forrest, and no one is around to hear it, should we help him even if he doesn’t make a sound? As long as CRN has a team Forrest will be making a sound! Forrest is great for the blog so if a tree fell on him we’d definitely help him but it probably wouldn’t be necessary. The poor tree will probably roll off of him after hearing him coyly go on and on again about how CRN isn’t that good this year even though every tree in the forest knows he’s going to pick CRN to win it all!

How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll Center of a Tootsie Pop? Much less than the number of track repeats needed to get to states.

And more importantly, how is Mr. Owl doing these days? Mr. Owl is probably wondering how “wise” it would be to pick against WCH getting through to states.

Does anybody actually read the texts of these posts? Never miss it.

Or do they just wait for the rankings to come out and read the comments? I love both the rankings and the comments.

Who am I kidding, it’s definitely the second one: Self-deprecating humor aside, we read it all!

Now back to that spreadsheet analysis for predictions.
