It looks like you might be able to watch through PCN, the cable network. Sounds like they will broadcast live on tv and you can get the stream through them as well (probably have to pay, might just be Saturday) ... If you look at the top of the results page I linked to you should see the info I'm describing
I'm always interested to see how the teams do. Most people on here don't care too much, because it's usually more sprint/field based for team points than distance (unless you're Oregon lol). We get hype about XC as big distance fans, and I don't think it's equatable by any means, but I do think it's a big deal and fun to watch.
I would say no one really cares because everyone here cares about distance and not the sprints, jumps or throws. The other events besides distance are the ones that win team states because it is next to impossible to triple or double in distance events and score points, While it is common for a sprinter to triple and maybe do a field event and score a ton of points. I am pretty sure Wellington Zaza a few years ago scored enough points by himself to get Garnett Valley to like 3rd or 4th in the team score and he was the only athlete from that school at states.
I care because it's awesome that Brehm took on such a challenge for the good of the team. Dude is running 2 - 800's, 2 -1600's and a 3200 against the best in the state, in less than 24 hours. I'd like to Carlisle pull out the team win.
AA boys 3200 winner is Hockenbury in 9:08, Molino faded hard at the end. Both ran together for most of the race. 2:12 at 800 4:31 at 1600, 6:50 at 2400, 8:00 at 2800 and 9:08 for Hock. I think Molino got 3rd.
AAA Boys 3200 winner is Brehm in 8:55. Brehm went out very slow and ran a 56-57 last 400. Splits were 64 at 400, 2:13 at 800, 3:22-23 at 1200, 4:32-33 at 1600, 5:41 at 2000, 6:50 at 2400, 7:55 at 2800 (7:58 for brehm), 8:24 with 200 left (8:25-26 for Brehm) Brehm beats out Abert by a half second in the last 20 meters and James took 3rd about a second or two back.
PB ran a blazing fast time. That's Abington/CB West conversation which is impressive seeing as I couldn't name any of the legs besides Webb/Sauer. I am a little out of the loop though. Anyone have the rest of the splits?
Yea the announcers sucked, they had no clue about anything they were talking about and were giving God awful splits. I was more accurate sitting on my couch with a watch. During the AA or AAA girls mile he said the race was over at the end of the 3rd lap as well as doing the same in the boys AA 3200.
Amazingly the announcers didn't seem to know who John Lewis was, that he came within .30 of breaking the state 800 record last week and that he was likely going for history in this 800.
Someone needs to get an interview or in-depth feature on Brehm; his weekend was nothing short of heroic. He may have only come away with one medal, but he pushed himself beyond his limits for his team and, in doing so, embodied the best of our sport.
If he did just the 8 and 16 (or maybe even 4x8, 16, 8 triple) he would have scored more team points. I can almost guarantee it. But I think they understood a couple things. 1) to beat cheltenham would take a miracle and that meant Brehm would have to find something heroic instead and unleashing 20+ points by himself which requires at least 3 events. 2) clearly, they wanted the 32-16-8 career triple for Brehm. I think that was always goal #1 and everything after that was gravy. Like I said, to beat cheltenham would have taken quite a day
I would say that the runners who win team titles remember team titles and that it means a lot to them. Especially when banners get put on a wall and such.
I think the team title just isn't marketed enough. In my conference meets for college team standings were everything and the scores were announced and studied throughout the day. I'm a huge follower of the sport and can't tell you most of the champions or runner ups in a given year at PA states. Also as has been mentioned, the scoring format for a team title is more emphasis on 1 or 2 runners tban a team effort in 90% of cases
McDevitt ain't beating Lewis. Graca may have had that idea and it cost him 2nd. There's a better chance of Lewis going 1:46 than of any PA high school runner beating him. If Lewis is running he should be in the Elite race with some pro's. Look for his new record to be broken by him.
Nobody has said it yet, so I'm going to just put it up here. In ~24 hours Zach Brehm ran the following times: 4:18/1:55/8:55/4:24/2:04
I'd love to have seen Craig Miller pull off something like that. In my opinion I think Brehm would have been right there in the battle for second had he chosen to run the 32/8 double. Kid closed the 32 in 56 flat. It's been an absolute honor watching him race the past few years.
As for Nathan Henderson running 9:08, we've also got Nick Dahl running 9:02 (as a soph) and a freshman broke 4:20 in the 1600 this year with multiple other freshman running under 4:30. I think PA is really starting to make a turn and frankly I think a lot of the credit should go to Etrain for helping runners stay competitive. I don't see PA slowing down anytime soon.
Is there a live stream somewhere online?
ReplyDeleteSaturday events are going to be live on PCN which I think is channel 9 if you have verizon.

ReplyDeleteBrehm!!!!! Let's see how Cheltenham responds
ReplyDeleteI'm asking because I am legitametly curious. Does anybody actually care about the team results?

Deletebrehms on track for a 5k gold frosh year, then 10k gold soph year, then i guess hes winning the rio marathon or something

Pennsbury wins the 4x8 in 7:38.
ReplyDeleteSauer 1:50.4 split
DeleteSC with only one senior and no returners from last year went 7:41.
DeletePB ran a blazing fast time. That's Abington/CB West conversation which is impressive seeing as I couldn't name any of the legs besides Webb/Sauer. I am a little out of the loop though. Anyone have the rest of the splits?
Delete-RTJ
I had 1:55.6-1:53.6-1:59.0-1:50.1 from the stands so unofficial but gives you an idea
DeleteAnyone get Lewis 4x400 split? It might have been 46 something.
DeleteReported on Twitter at an unofficial 46.0
DeleteJaxson Joey wins the mile, just edging out Jeff Van Kooten in about 4:11 or 4:12. Brehm fell way back and Kolor took 3rd.
ReplyDeleteLewis wins in 1:48.72 he was out in 51 high. Wow.
ReplyDeleteJohn Lewis amazed me in every event he was in today.
DeleteHe's the real deal.
ReplyDeletewho was runner-up? 3rd
Sauer runner-up 1:51.00
DeleteEddinger 1:51.something for third
Brehm splits 3200. 4:36 / 4:19.
ReplyDeleteNope, 4:40/4:15. They were even talking about it on the broadcast just because of how ridiculous that last mile was.
DeleteIf they said it on the PCN broadcast, it almost assurantly is untrue.
DeleteYea the announcers sucked, they had no clue about anything they were talking about and were giving God awful splits. I was more accurate sitting on my couch with a watch. ReplyDeleteSide note: he PRed in the 5k, 32, and even the 8 this year. Here's hoping that he finally beats that mile PR.
DeleteHave to disagree if he would have only picked 2 events, since they had no chance at state title lost by 20,i think he could have had a better showing
ReplyDeleteIf he did just the 8 and 16 (or maybe even 4x8, 16, 8 triple) he would have scored more team points. I can almost guarantee it. DeleteWasn't Brehm the only guy in that 3200 who ran trials the day before? Not one, but two races? That's a pretty amazing performance.
DeleteDo you think coaches get caught up in a track state title, seems nobody remembers who won team titles
ReplyDeleteI would say that the runners who win team titles remember team titles and that it means a lot to them. Especially when banners get put on a wall and such.

DeleteMcdevitt will beat lewis at the distance festival you heard it here first. The kid can close the last 200 meters like nobody else in the state can.
ReplyDeleteAllegedly Peretta may be there too, up in the air for which event but I think he may choose 800
DeleteMcDevitt ain't beating Lewis. Graca may have had that idea and it cost him 2nd. There's a better chance of Lewis going 1:46 than of any PA high school runner beating him. If Lewis is running he should be in the Elite race with some pro's. Look for his new record to be broken by him.
DeleteYeah, I heard there was a possibility for a Lewis-Peretta matchup at the distance festival
DeleteState College and Pennridge's 4x8 teams each have 3 returning, including their anchors
ReplyDelete2016 4x8 will be a sub 7:40 battle
DeleteI believe cbw has 3 and their anchor also
DeleteIs no one going to mention that a 10th grader just ran 9:08?!
ReplyDeleteNobody has said it yet, so I'm going to just put it up here. In ~24 hours Zach Brehm ran the following times:
