This will double as a chance to ask me any question you want about states and I'll do my best to answer. If you are talking specifically to me rather than to the group, use a tag like @train just so I know.
Also a podcast was just recorded on the individual races (got carried away, made for a long run) so be on the look out for that at some point during the discussion window.

Here's a podcast to set the tone for the state coverage
I'll also provide links here to the all the LXV+ coverage. Each District's post lists all the state qualifiers (teams and individuals), provides a link to full results and tells you how I did on my predictions.

The Fantasy XC draft will be Thursday night so if you want to be involved, make sure to let us know before then. For more info on that click here.
In other, exciting news, I have just received word that there will be an "Alternates Race" at Hershey the Friday before the state championships. It's an unofficial race, to be held at 1:30 on the Hershey lay out. It's open to anyone who shows up and will pretty informal, no pre-race sign ups necessary. A few teams like DT West, CB West, Henderson and CR North will be involved among others. So if you are in the area and want to get in a race on the course, be sure to hop in or pull up a seat to watch Friday at 1:30. Should be a lot of fun!
One final note, if you are trying to keep up with the discussion, most of it has been going on here

ReplyDeleteLocal Newspaper explains what Happened to Seiger^
Train you could have simply fixed your early season mistake. The fact you didn't predict the imminent victory early in the season would have easily been excused. Instead you decided to stick with your guns and will now be known as the one who doubted Hock.
ReplyDeleteHaha if it happens, just remember where you heard it first ... if it doesn't (i won't lie, it's very likely Hock wins) then I will quite fairly be that guy. For some reason I always seem to pick against him and he always seems to make me look silly ...
DeleteJust throwing it out there, how do you think this year ranks in terms of overall team strength? You have a strong front runner (DTW), then a very solid pack behind them.
ReplyDeleteI'll jump in on this one. I think this is a great year out front team wise. I'm not sure DT West is an all-time great team like the Henderson squads or the Coatesville squad, but they are a really strong team and so are CBW and North Allegheny. I feel like this CB West team has been really overshadowed by the other squads. Then you throw in the LaSalle/Hempfield/SC tier and that's a nice group out front with a tier of teams ready to possibly jump them from around the state.
DeleteI think 2009 was one of the deeper years team wise with a lot of strong squads, but this year is deep and better out front. 2013 may have had an overall better top 3 teams, but this year is deeper. 2012 was another pretty deep year and may end up kinda comparable to this year's meet.
Of course ultimately, we won't know just how strong this year's group is until after the state meet. If we see another battle like we saw in 2012 out front, this year becomes even more memorable.
Train or anyone: Do you think that the course record will be broken again this year? Personally I think it could happen if Brophy went for time, but a competitive race is not always a fast race.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, I have a good feeling about Brophy.
DeleteAlso I have mixed feelings on Jaxson Hoey. He's a fantastic runner, and did pretty well on the Manhattan 4k (which was very hilly), but I'm not sure he'll shine at Hershey. I'm sure Sappey and Josh Hoey will pull through for their team. I don't think he'll get second.
DeleteWhy would Jaxson not shine while his brother and sappey would? just curious
DeleteSappey has performed well at States in the past. Josh beat Jaxson at Manhattan. I could be very wrong, but I have some feeling he won't perform quite as well as he sometimes does. Then again, him on an off day still puts him high in the standings.
DeleteCant wait for an epic showdown between DT West and NA. Its going to be close, DT has the front runners, NA has a solid, expierenced, pack. Its anyones game.
ReplyDeleteA lot of teams tend to have one or two guys who under perform. It is always difficult to tell how things will pan out, but DTW is certainly the favorite going in. NA seems to be able to handle the course across the board, which will certainly play out well for them. I wouldn't count out teams such as CBW, LaSalle, SC, and CRN from this mix. It's all about having a good race at the right time.
DeleteAlso not to sure if anyone reads them, but shameless plug for the Running Diaries: Chapter 6 is coming up tomorrow around noon
ReplyDeleteAny Dwest runners sick or injured or did they just run bad again at districts? This is important info, we have predictions to make!
ReplyDeletelets get down to the real questions. Is there going to be free chocolate milk at states like they had in the past?
ReplyDeleteTRUUU they had that at outdoor states and i had at least 4
