States Prediction Contest/Discussion Thread

Prediction contest is simple: Predict the top 5 in each distance event (4x8, 16, 8, 32). There will be separate competitions for both AA and AAA so don't feel pressure to enter both. Just comment on this post below and see if you can topple etrain's predictions! Make sure to include a code name of some sort so we can identify and properly praise the winner on their work!

This will also double as the discussion thread for states as there will be no more posts until after states! So discuss away, predict away and enjoy!

  3. So I think it might be fun to get a little twitter buzz for the meet. To those competing or watching the state meet, when someone outperforms my predictions or proves me wrong by dropping an awesome time, tweet at the blog and let us know! Give yourself a nice pat on the back. I think it would be pretty fun to see.

Currently we are going with the hashtag: #DerailTheTrain (shout out to Evan Hatton)

Some of the ideas that ending up on the cutting room floor that I came up with #TheWrongTrain, #Ftrain (as in the failing grade on a test, not ... you know), #YouMissMoreThanStephCurry (it's long, but it's a double blast) and #RealRecognizeReal (not really sure if applicable, but a cool hashtag).

So yeah, we thank goodness for Evan

It's all in good fun and gives those whose skills I didn't highlight in the posts a chance to shine! Hit us up @TheRealTrain11 with your tweets.

We also are at 199 followers so if you want to help us get to 200 that would be chill as well.

    Stay classy and #DerailTheTrain

  4. 4 x 800
    1 – State College 7:41.5
    2 – Pennridge 7:44.2
    3 – CBW 7:44.8
    4 – CRN 7:50.9
    5 – Carlisle 7:52.5

    3200
    1 – Brophy 9:04
    2 – Henderson 9:06
    3 – Migliozzi 9:10
    4 – Wolk 9:11
    5 – Hall 9:15

Somebody always seems to kick big at states and take it on the last lap, Brophy seems like just the guy to do it.

    1600

    1 – Hoey 4:10.8
    2 – Kolor 4:11.8
    3 – Conway 4:15.7
    4 – Galligan 4:16.3
    5 – Milligan 4:16.5

This seems like it sets up to be a two man race and Kolor will probably push it at some point but Hoey should be able to go with him and I’m expecting a big battle over the final 200. For a sleeper, I wouldn't be surprised if Sappey has a good meet and gets onto medal stand.

    800

    1 – Hoey 1:52.7
    2 – McClellan 1:53.5
    3 – Whitfield 1:53.7
    4 – Wisner 1:53.9
    5 – Desko 1:54.0

Picking this race felt like picking a March madness bracket, there are so many guys so close that getting out of the qualifying round isn’t a given for anybody. There’s got to be some surprises and probably a bigger name or two who gets boxed in or stuck out in the 3rd lane and it costs them.

I just can’t pick against a two time state champ with a resume like Hoey’s . I know he’s had some health issues which is probably why he’s in this and not the 1600 which suits him better. But he’s got the 50 – 400 speed, experience, a battler to the line and looked real good at districts.

4 x 400 - I’m really hoping the team championship comes down to the 4x400. As a distance junkie I’m admittedly usually on my way by the time this race rolls around. But with DTW having such a unique team of sprinters/distance guys it should be worth watching, especially if the championship is at stake!

  6. The 800 is kind of crazy. All 12 qualifiers within 2 seconds of each other. Anyone of them can win this.

    1. So who's the favorite then?

      Delete
    2. The favorite? that’s a tough one. Desko barely moved on which makes him dangerous. Sunderland had a 2 second PR so he could be on a roll, Wisner simply got the job done which shows confidence, Feffer and Degleris have the extra motivation of contending for a state title, Hoey is a prior champion and also has RJJL’s endorsement which usually means gold, Schneck fought to the finish and that toughness will be needed, McClellnan showed his 1:53 was no fluke, Klick is an up an comer, and Wolfington and Miller have made the best of this opportunity. So that said, the favorite is clearly Espinal because nobody picked him to do anything!

  8. Dear lord are these PCN announcers bad. Claimed Peretta went out in 2:17 and closed in 2 flat. The dude was around 2:11 and dropped a 58 mid last lap.

    1. Yeah, how about the name "Graisling" Devlin flashing up on the screen! She was the favorite and winner and they can't get her name right. And they typically announce the winner then that's pretty much it, you have to wait for the website to post results to find out who else medaled. So tired of hearing about turnover, high elbows, leveraging the baton and any other made up technical stuff to sound knowledgeable. Just do some more research on the athletes, that's interesting stuff. Ugghhhh, it's not that hard, Etrain's crew is way more knowledgeable and quite frankly, more professional even when doing a podcast from a bedroom!

  9. Anyone know the team score going into the 4x400? It looks like SC up by 3 maybe. If that's right DTW needs to win the 4x400 and needs some help to push SC out of 2nd. Just hoping DTW wins this so there's no 2nd guessing what went on today.

    1. By my count, its SC 46, DTW 43 going into the 4x4. So yes, SC needs to take 2nd in this 4x4 if DTW wins. State College has been killing it in the field events (shout out to Griffin Thompson, pole vaulting 16-3 is insane), but Milligan's win in the mile has been the real difference maker, he outscored DTW in that event, and Nick Feffer and Anthony Degleris combined to hold even point-wise with Jaxson in the 800. I honestly wasn't expecting them to out-do DTW on the individual distance events. McLemore may be able to put the team on his back one more time, but it might not be enough for DTW. Really wish i was there to witness this final battle, it should be a very exciting way to end the meet
