Well,
my predictions are now officially out in the open. Now it’s time for you to
make your counter offers.
We will
host another prediction contest this year for the 2017 PTFCA Indoor State
Championships. Here is how it will work. For each of the five distance events
we’ve previewed (mile, 800, 3k, DMR, 4x8) you can post either 1) a top five
(normal contest) or 2) a top eight projected finishers in the event (super
contest). Each prediction is scored based on the following criteria:
a) -3
points for correctly predicting the winner
b) +2
points for each top 5/8 finisher missing from your list
c) You
will receive a positive amount of points equal to the difference between your
predicted runners finish and the actual finish. For example, if I predict Caleb
to get 3rd and he gets 1st, that’s +2. Similarly, if I
predict Alex to get 2nd and he gets 7th, that’s +5. That maximum
amount of positive points you can receive for any one runner is +8.
d)
Lowest score wins
If you
are participating in the Etrain Ultimate Fan Challenge (which offers the chance
to win free t-shirts for you and your teammates), this competition can get you
points. If you are competing in the normal contest (i.e. top 5), for every
event that you score better than Etrain, you will get 3 points in the UFC. For
every event you score better than Etrain in the super contest (top 8), you will
get 5 points in the UFC.

My predictions are based on reading that Carlisle is going all out for the team championship so I’m figuring the Affolders are in 4 x 800, Mile, 800 (N only) and the DMR. Shanahan is a contender too but the talk is Hoey is going 800 (and probably the 4x400). It wouldn’t be surprising if Hoey were in the 4x800 though since Shanahan could definitely pick up some points in this event. But I’m taking a chance and going all in on Carlisle for my predictions.

If I were Carlisle I’d be going after this 4x800 for 10 points out of the gate, and if they do go after it I think they’ll win it going away. It’d be great theatre if Dahl and N Affolder got the baton dead even on the anchor but it just doesn’t seem likely.

This has the potential to be a really weird race. You have to figure the Affolders will be left to set the tone so they’re likely going out comfortable and nobody really pushes the pace early. Hopefully somebody not named Affolder starts pushing it by lap 4 but if not it might be a sprint over the final 400. If one of the speedsters has a huge day he might split the Affolders in the last 200, but I’m guessing S Affolder wins it as his brother cruises through the line saving what he can for the 800.

Assuming the speculation is true and Hoey doesn’t run the 4x800, he should take this one, but this races has at least 12 guys who could realistically be in the top 5 with a good day.

It will be interesting to see where Carlisle stands when this one comes around, especially with the teams in contention that have the 4x400 left. They will need a huge effort to still be in it at this point and an even bigger effort to come away with some points in this late race. I’m always hoping for the huge historical effort so I’m optimistic Carlisle will do something special here. That said, they’re still facing great PA competition. But even with the Affolders coming back for their 3rd and 4th races of the day, they could still go sub 10:20 if the team championship is on the line. Who can match that? Probably only GFS but I’m not sure they’ll have enough.

What's up with Etrain's Hontz bromance? He's solid, but he'll need to run two sub 4:20 miles to get the mile and DMR predictions. That'd be an incredible day for a guy who's never done it once before.

Fast Steve, who is McDermott in the 800? Am I missing a name? My apologies if so

This meet should be held outside today. They better open every door and window possible because it's going to be warm in there.
